The Open Network faces a backlash following its January 21 announcement that requested all Telegram-based mini-apps to exclusively use TON’s blockchain infrastructure by February 21, 2025.
The changes have forced Farm Frens to delay its FREN airdrop to February after The Open Network and Telegram’s “unreasonable deadlines” forced the team to adjust their roadmap.
The Farm Frens team expressed disappointment over Telegram and its founder’s insincerity in allowing an Open Network to be “Closed.”
It is upsetting to witness the incredible hypocrisy between Durov’s original purported ideals for Telegram (decentralization, censorship resistance, etc.) versus the Closed Network’s new stance.
Despite whatever goodwill that was built up before, trust takes years to build, seconds to break, and forever to repair.
Farm Frens creators alleged that Telegram and TON’s decision forced them to adjust their roadmap.
Eventually, they decided to delay the planned January airdrop and use Coinbase’s Base instead of the TON blockchain.
🔜 FEBRUARY IS FOR FRENS 🫰
Dear Frens, we know many of you have been asking “wen tge” because we had previously announced January as our launch month.
Unfortunately, several days ago Telegram made a surprise announcement forcing TON (so-called “The Open Network”) to now…

Telegram and the Open Network’s exclusivity agreement requires all mini-app developers on the messaging app to connect to TON within a month.
Meanwhile, developers revealed that projects linked with other blockchains that migrate to TON within the timeframe may qualify for grants worth up to $50,000.
TON Mini App Migration Program supports existing Telegram Mini Apps transitioning to TON from other blockchains. It provides up to $50K per project in Telegram ads/adsgram credits to boost visibility and growth.
Meanwhile, Farm Frens hasn’t bowed to Telegram and TON’s requirements, with key adjustments to its roadmap, including:
Removing on-chain integration for Farm Frens on the social platform.
Spinning out the game’s wallet as a separate application that will thrive outside Telegram.
Relaunching Farm Frens with key improvements and on different platforms soon.
Moving some player progress from Telegram to the game’s second season.
Toncoin price outlook
TON changed hands at $4.88 after brief 24-hour gains.

While broad market resilience could help the alt sustain the upswing, Telegram and TON blockchain’s criticism could restrict the anticipated rallies.
Furthermore, the latest movement of over 240K TON tokens to crypto exchanges increased market volatility and selling pressure.
This trend signals potential downward trends for TON price.
Ton Stat data confirms this narrative as daily token burns reduce.
The project burned only 5,044 coins yesterday, down from January 22 peaks of 15,805.
Furthermore, underperformance from Telegram-based projects such as Hamster Kombat and Notcoin have dwindled interest in Toncoin.
That explains TON’s weakness. Continued bearishness amid the arising backlash could trigger declines to $3.78.
Meanwhile, the consistent surges in Toncoin’s address count could help offset bearishness and fuel stable uptrends amid broad market rallies.
The surged addresses potentially signal increased interest and activity in the Toncoin blockchain.

That might bolster investor confidence and support bullish cases for TON price in the upcoming sessions.
